Nat Wei, Baron Wei

Lord Wei is a social entrepreneur, interested in social reform, a member of the House of Lords and was previously an adviser to the UK Government on their Big Society project.

Lord Wei’s Chinese ancestry can be traced back to a village in Zhuhai, on the southern coast of the Guangdong province. His ancestral home is 2 villages away from that of Sun Yat-sen, whom incidentally, Lord Wei enjoys reading and learning about.

He is fluent in English, has a working knowledge of Chinese Cantonese, French and German. Lord Wei is also currently actively learning Chinese Mandarin from the Confucious Insitute of Business at the London School of Economics.

Mike Tsang

Mike Tsang was born and raised in London to Chinese-Mauritian parents. Being a second-generation Mauritian and third-generation Chinese, the mix of Asian-African-European cultures in his heritage and upbringing has strongly influenced his photographic work.

Mike grew up in the Harrow suburb of London and went on to study Mathematics at University before being drawn towards photography. Having always been fascinated by the range of different cultures and people that London holds, and having a strong visual aesthetic that made him pore over films and comics throughout his childhood, photography became the perfect medium through which to explore the subjects of his curiosity.

Sir David Tang Wang Cheung KBE

Entrepreneur, businessman and socialite

Sir David Tang, is a Hong Kong businessman and socialite best known as the founder of the Shanghai Tang chain, though he sold his entire interest in the company in 1998.

Known for his love of Cuban cigars, Sir David is also a cigar importer and the Honorary Consul of Cuba in Hong Kong. He is a columnist for Apple Daily; a selection of his articles for the paper has been published in book form in English as An Apple a Week, where his colourful upbringing, remarkably generous spirit and always challenging opinions can be enjoyed. Other interests include aviation and gold-mining.

He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours in recognition of his charity work.

Writer and Founder of Mother’s Bridge of Love charity

Xinran (full name Xinran Xue) is the founder of the charity Mother’s Bridge of Love. This charity aims to provide help and support for adoptive mothers of Chinese children. Mother’s Bridge of Love seeks to provide overseas Chinese children with a link to their heritage and culture, and also to provide for the millions of Chinese children growing up in poverty, with little chance of a quality education.

Established in 1988, Birmingham Chinese Society is a charity and service provider serving the Chinese community in Birmingham and the West Midlands. From humble beginnings, the range of services the Society was able to offer expanded in 1994 when Irene Chu joined the organisation.

To meet the increasing needs of the local Chinese community the Society began to provide employment advice, focusing on confidence building, CV writing and job search skills. The Society’s business support services earnt it the title of Investor In People (IIP) and a Quality Standard, Matrix Standard.
