Sir David Tang Wang Cheung KBE

Sir David Tang, is a Hong Kong businessman and socialite best known as the founder of the Shanghai Tang chain, though he sold his entire interest in the company in 1998.

Known for his love of Cuban cigars, Sir David is also a cigar importer and the Honorary Consul of Cuba in Hong Kong. He is a columnist for Apple Daily; a selection of his articles for the paper has been published in book form in English as An Apple a Week, where his colourful upbringing, remarkably generous spirit and always challenging opinions can be enjoyed. Other interests include aviation and gold-mining.

He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours in recognition of his charity work.

Writer and Founder of Mother’s Bridge of Love charity

Xinran (full name Xinran Xue) is the founder of the charity Mother’s Bridge of Love. This charity aims to provide help and support for adoptive mothers of Chinese children. Mother’s Bridge of Love seeks to provide overseas Chinese children with a link to their heritage and culture, and also to provide for the millions of Chinese children growing up in poverty, with little chance of a quality education.

Established in 1988, Birmingham Chinese Society is a charity and service provider serving the Chinese community in Birmingham and the West Midlands. From humble beginnings, the range of services the Society was able to offer expanded in 1994 when Irene Chu joined the organisation.

To meet the increasing needs of the local Chinese community the Society began to provide employment advice, focusing on confidence building, CV writing and job search skills. The Society’s business support services earnt it the title of Investor In People (IIP) and a Quality Standard, Matrix Standard.
