Jih-Wen Yeh

Artistic Director and Producer

Taiwanese-born Jih-Wen Yeh trained in both Chinese and contemporary dance at the Taiwan Junior College and gained her BA (Hons) Dance Theatre at the Laban centre, London in 1993.

Jih-Wen has choreographed and performed professionally in both Chinese and contemporary dance. She had won a choreographic award from the Dance of Black Origin Festival led by the Greenroom Manchester. By March 2001 she had completed her fourth contract with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London to perform in the production of "Turandot" 2001. She is also working closely with the Chinese Arts Centre as an ongoing workshop leader since 1997. Jih - Wen
was selected and awarded as one of the ten leadership training course in East Scheme in 2007.

In 1995 Jih-Wen formed Step out Arts to aim to promote and raise the profile of Chinese performing culture and arts at its highest level to as wide an audience as possible, through productions and educational projects. However Jie-Qing Festival (It means Festival celebration) has became the annual production since the year of 2002. Step Out Arts invites professional performing companies from East Asia to run coinciding with Lunar New Year. Through the years of successful track records, Jie-Qing 2007 & 2008 was supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

In 2005 Jih-Wen was appointed as a consultant Artist for Chinatown Arts Space (CAS was part of action plan in London Chinatown) by Westminster city Council. As CAS became an independent arts organisation, she was promoted as CAS Project Manager in 2006.

Jih-Wen has organised Five Circles Arts Festival (2008-09), The Circle Festival (2007), West End Live ( 2005-06 & 2008), Chinatown Arts (2006), Chinatown Live (2006), an educational project with the Royal Geographical Society (2006), Lighting Up Chinatown (2005), primary school education workshops in the City of Westminster (2005).

Jih-Wen currently works as the Artistic Director of Step Out Arts and the Producer of Jie-Qing Festival.
