Jing Lusi 陆思敬

Jing Lusi was born in Shanghai and grew up in Hampshire. The daughter of academics, Jing studied at Peter Symonds College, Winchester and went onto read Law at University College London.

Having performed in The Really Useful Group’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Philip Schofield as a child, Jing eventually chose an acting career over a legal lifestyle when she graduated.

Jing has worked across Asia, UK, and US; playing Princess Meng Li Hua in Malaysia’s highest grossing blockbuster Clash of Empires: Battle For Asia (2011, KRU Studios), her other film credits include Jack Falls (Lionsgate 2011), Before I Go To Sleep (2014, Millennium Films), Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014, Paramount) and Survivor (2015, Millennium Films).

However, the role that launched Jing into the public eye in the UK was her breakthrough performance in BBC1’s Holby City, portraying the ambitious but ill-fated junior doctor Tara Lo. In a highly publicised and well-received storyline, Tara suffered from a brain tumour that would eventually claim her life. The storyline itself earned the BBC flagship show a BAFTA nomination in 2014.

Jing has since gone on to receive widespread critical acclaim for her performance as Amanda in 4000 Miles (Theatre Royal Bath, Print Room London), with The Independent describing her as, “cruelly well observed, and very funny... Jing Lusi nails the narcissism and the ridiculous, relentless self-promotion of the Facebook age".

In March 2015, Jing became the subject and presenter of the BBC1 documentary My Chinese New Year. In the film, Jing sets out to explore the true meaning of Chinese New Year and follows the lead-up to the festival among the community in Chinatown; Jing's own family celebrations and her mission to understand an important part of her heritage about which she knows little.

In February 2015, Jing was the host of the London Chinese New Year Celebrations in Trafalgar Square, and her journey is also encapsulated as part of the BBC documentary.
