Ping Hua
Research Scientist

Ping Hua is a research scientist and staff PhD candidate at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, the internationally renowned research institute at the University of Southampton. She conducts independent research into integrated optical sensors and sensor systems that apply to biology, chemistry and environmental monitoring systems.

In addition to her research work, Ping has been the chair of the Chinese Association of Southampton for a number of years.

The Association includes services for the elderly and the young, helping them overcome language barriers and promoting Chinese culture in Southampton and the surrounding area.

She is also the founder and director of the Southampton Phoenix Arts Group, the first such ethnic minority arts group working with mainstream music institutions. She has used her musical talent for causes such as fundraising for the Tsunami Appeal and to raise awareness and understanding of Chinese arts and culture in communities and schools.

Ping Hua was a Finalist for the The 48 Group Club Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement at The Pearl Awards in 2005.

Ping Hua is based in Southampton.
