Author / Screenwriter / Storyteller

Tina is a 'Chinese Brummie' writer of fiction, creative non-fiction, children's books and short films. She is currently finishing off her studies with the National Academy of Writing based in Birmingham and working on various full length projects including her much anticipated memoir, Chinese Chips (working title).

Tina's most recent publications The Crew: Day of the Dog (2009) and The Crew: Hot or Not? (2009) are published by leading educational publisher Franklin Watts and are part of six reluctant reader titles penned under the pseudonym Sam Carter. Tina's writing can also be found in the anthologies: The Map of Me (2008, Penguin), Finding A Voice (2008, National Academy of Writing/Imprimata) and Original Skin (2007, Birmingham Libraries/Brewin Books).

Not only content with writing prose, Tina has turned her hand at other forms of writing with some success. Tina's short film script Aston Manna was shortlisted for Screen West Midlands Digishort scheme in 2009 and B3 Media's Blank Slate scheme in 2010. Her short film adaptation Lychees and Bingo Balls won the BBC Bites (BBC Writersroom) competition in 2008, and in the same year her 10 minute play The Seal Maker's Son won the SCRIPT Beijing Map Games Competition and was performed in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. She is also the recipient of a W. Wing Yip Brothers bursary for students of Chinese heritage who excel in their chosen field of study.

Tina has a BA in American and Canadian Studies and a Masters in American Literature and Film from the University of Birmingham and has studied Asian American studies at UC Berkeley, California during her year abroad. In an attempt to learn Mandarin Chinese, Tina spent eight months teaching English and studying in Taipei. She was commended on her chopstick technique.

Having been supported on her writing journey by various individuals, Tina is happy to be able to tutor and mentor others writers of Chinese heritage, as one of the tutors on the Chinese Writers Project run by Bolton University and Arvon Foundation during February 2010.

Hello Tina I'm a British-Chinese actor/writer currently looking to extend my existing network and specifically interested in connecting with future artistic partners, colleagues, or potential collaborators. I am developing a cannon of work which at its heart will have the history, memories, viewpoint of being Chinese in the UK. I'd like to be able to connect either on Facebook and or LinkedIn (I'm also on Visible Chinese too)
